Gloeotrichia Observation Program: Help us to monitor the location, frequency, and severity of gloeotrichia blooms to better understand trends in our lake water quality. Observe and record gloeotrichia density from your shoreline, dock, or boat. Your observations will be added to our database to evaluate trends in gloeotrichia occurrence.
Courtesy Boat Inspectors (CBI): Inspect motorized craft entering Great Pond and Long Pond at public launch sites. Help detect invasive plant species before they enter our lakes. This is a good way to meet people who share your enthusiasm for protecting the environment.
Invasive Plant Patrols: We need volunteers to help our continuing efforts to patrol our lakes to guard against invasive plants such as Milfoil. You will learn how to identify the species of invasive plants, assist in conducting surveys, or act as spotters for divers doing inspections. Team inspections are made at various shoreline locations, and particularly sensitive and at-risk areas, using canoes or kayaks.
Swimmer’s itch (aka duck itch): Spotters are needed starting in mid to late May and continuing through the summer to report sightings of Merganser nesting locations and Merganser broods. Learn about the source of the swimmer's itch rash and the actions we are taking to mitigate its occurrence.
LakeSmart: A voluntary program for shorefront property owners to learn about lake-friendly practices, to be rewarded for good practices, and to find out about improvements they can make to better protect our lakes.
Membership Drive: Canvass shoreline property owners to join the Belgrade Lakes Association. One resident per camp road is needed to knock on doors and distribute promotional packs. Packs with membership application forms are available at the Belgrade Lakes Association
Newsletters: Help write- up quarterly and special newsletters.
Office help: Help with miscellaneous office work as needed.
